Several projects are underway to improve the \u017di\u017ekov district of Prague. These projects are designed to enhance the Prague 3 area, making the neighborhood more appealing and its transportation links more accessible. Four key changes are planned, focusing on the improvement of the Flora metro station on the A (green) line, the renovation of the vast Seifertova Street, the establishment of a new tram line crossing the \u017di\u017ekov freight station, and the reconstruction of n\u00e1m\u011bst\u00ed Ji\u0159\u00edho z Pod\u011bbrad (JzP) square.<\/p>\n
Several enhancements are planned to optimize the Flora metro station in \u017di\u017ekov. The project includes the construction of elevators to replace the existing escalators and the rebuilding of the traction power substation. To coordinate construction and transportation renovation efforts more effectively, the district council has opted to create a digital map of the ongoing projects. This isn’t the first time a station in the \u017di\u017ekov area and on the A metro line has been completely rebuilt. The first was the Ji\u0159\u00edho z Pod\u011bbrad station, which closed for several months due to construction work and reopened at the end of 2023.<\/p>\n
Seifertova Street is one of the main intersections in the \u017di\u017ekov district. One of the largest and most important improvement projects in Prague 3 is the reconstruction of this major road. The work will include repairs to the tram tracks and reorganization of the public spaces surrounding the street. The project, overseen by IPR (Institute of Planning and Development), aims to improve the microclimate and rainwater management in the district, while making it more pedestrian-friendly. IPR has also designed the initiative to use rainwater more efficiently in \u017di\u017ekov, employing it to improve tree and green space irrigation. As for the trams, several modifications will simplify transfers and improve traffic flow. The plan is also to change the area surrounding Seifertova, by renovating roads and sidewalks, and planting a new row of trees. Initially, the work was scheduled for 2025, but Zden\u011bk H\u0159ib, Deputy Mayor for Transport, indicated that it will likely not begin before 2026.<\/p>\n
A new tram line is planned, connecting the \u017di\u017ekov freight station (located on Ol\u0161ansk\u00e1 Street) to the rest of the district. The new tram line will include five stops and will connect to the intersection of Jan \u017delivsk\u00e9ho and Ol\u0161ansk\u00e1. From there, it will head north, passing near the freight station, then move east through an underpass beneath the K \u010cervenu dvor road. The route will follow the existing railway track and terminate on Male\u0161ick\u00e1 Street. Construction of this connection is scheduled for next year.<\/p>\n
Currently, n\u00e1m\u011bst\u00ed Ji\u0159\u00edho z Pod\u011bbrad square is undergoing renovation. Prague’s Deputy Mayor, Petr Hlav\u00e1\u010dek, emphasized the importance of the square and the need for a conceptual approach to its revitalization. This renovation will include the addition of new green areas and the planting of 150 trees, including sycamores, maples, hornbeams, elms, oaks, lindens, and ornamental cherry trees. The children’s playground will be expanded, and the square’s fountain will be improved. Plans also include changes to improve access to the square by creating new paths and increasing parking spaces.<\/p>\n
The \u017di\u017ekov district is thus poised for a significant transformation thanks to these key projects. These initiatives will not only enhance \u017di\u017ekov but also make it a more livable and well-connected area.<\/p>\n
